R&S®SMJ-K52 Digital Standard DVB-H
With DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) a communication infrastructure for powerful transmission of MPEG-2 based data is available. Beside satellite based (DVB-S), terrestrial (DVB-T) and cable bound (DVB-C) transmission schemes there exists the latest version for portable/handheld terminals (DVB-H). DVB-H – which is an extension to DVB – is compatible to the basic concept of the standard. The extensions bring advantages which are especially important factors for portable devices: low power consumption, small hardware and robustness against fading effects.
In the last years mobile phones and video applications merged more and more. Some years ago the mobile phone was only a means of making phone calls, today one can watch TV on handheld devices.
Those new applications get more and more important and so Rohde & Schwarz now offers the Option Digital Standard DVB-H (R&S SMJ-K52) for the generators of the SMU family. With this solution customers can test both mobile communication standards (such as W-CDMA 3GPP FDD, TD-SCDMA, GSM/EDGE) and DVB-H with only ONE signal generator. The creation of standard-compliant DVB-H signals with the option SMJ–K52 is very simple.
The unique features of the generators of the SMU family (2 path concept, fading, high signal quality etc.) make those generators ideal sources for DVB-H receiver tests.
